CONTACTS

Contact lenses are worn by more than 30 million people in the United States and each year their popularity continues to grow. A large part of their appeal is cosmetic but there are also advantages of better side vision, better visual acuity in some instances, plus the advantage of not having glasses that gets steamy from humidity or distorted from perspiration. They are ideal for sports and make it easier use optical instruments such as microscopes and cameras.

The first step in contact lens wear is a thorough eye exam. Next, proper fitting knowledge, lens selection, and patient follow-up are essential. Often times since many offices and optical chains fit only one or two types of lenses, the patient that can't wear that particular lens style is told "you can't wear contacts", when if proper fitting techniques and a willingness to try various lens designs was executed, successful lens wearer could be achieved. Also, when the first lens tried is unsuccessful, many times there is no desire on the part of the doctor to try something different since more lenses tried means more money invested. All too often the patient is simply told "you can't wear contacts".

Our office takes pride in its 95% + contact lens success rate, so if you are motivated to put up with some of the inconveniences of contact lens wear, chances are you can wear them.
