What is low vision?
Low vision is synonymous with "vision impairment" or
"partial sight". Any level of
vision loss that precludes a person from performing an
activity that's important for that person is considered
low vision.
What is a low vision
service?
A low vision service offers vision rehabilitation,
informational materials and low vision aids to help
maximize a person's existing vision. Assistance is
also provided for learning new ways to gather
information, in an effort to maintain independence.
About your low vision
evaluation…
An evaluation my last
up to 2 hours.
A thorough history, vision
analysis and testing is completed to determine if
appropriate magnification is beneficial. Various
modes of magnification including hand and stand
magnifiers, CCTVs
(table and portable models),
microscopes and telescopes will be demonstrated.
Lighting, contrast, and
other topics of vision rehabilitation, including
non-optical aids will be reviewed. Also, a careful
trial frame refraction is done by Dr. Blanco to
determine if a modification in your spectacles is
beneficial.
