About Our Doctor
Dr. Jeffrey Blanco and his
staff have dedicated themselves to practicing at the
highest level, providing quality vision care for
patients of all ages, from infants to seniors with a
caring sense of compassion unparalleled in today’s
rushed medical environment. Very few practices offer
services to patients of all ages, from infants to the
elderly.
It takes a special
commitment to stay current and “cutting edge”. Dr.
Blanco makes that commitment every day. "I love every
area of my profession but to be up-to-date, I have to
devote time every day to continuing education. With the
help of the internet, online medical libraries, email
alerts and handheld computers, the task of being
informed on topics that affect my patients is more
possible than ever.”
Dr. Blanco is a published
author on the subject of macular degeneration, has done
contact lens research, and has served on the staff of
the Illinois College of Optometry, the Peoria Sight
Center, and the Chicago Lighthouse. He holds a patent
for low vision devices.
Jeffrey J. Blanco was born
in LaSalle Illinois. He attended La Salle Peru high
school where he was a member of the National Honor
Society, high scholarship for 7 semesters, and senior
class president. He was a four-year varsity letterman on
his high school wrestling and tennis teams. After
graduation he attended Western Illinois University in
Macomb, Illinois where he completed his pre-optometry
admissions requirements. He attended and graduated from
the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois
in 1976 with honors receiving the Gold Key Award for
“outstanding scholarship and leadership” and the
Feinbloom Award for “outstanding work in low vision”.
After graduation he served on the staff of the college
for two years. After he left the college he was employed
by the Peoria Sight Center, a low vision rehabilitation
center. He established his first private practice in
Spring Valley, Illinois in 1980. His most recent branch
office was established in 2006 in Morris, Illinois.
He presently lives near
Starved Rock State Park in north central Illinois in the
town of Oglesby. He and his wife Susan have two
children, Nicole is a English teacher at Hinsdale South
high school where she serves as head girls tennis coach.
His son Ryan is completing a residency in primary care
medicine at Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Blanco is an accomplished
tennis player. He has competed in national amateur
tennis tournaments. He was ranked 55 in the nation in
the men's 45 and over category. He is also an avid
outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and outdoor
photography.
